Math is fun. Everyone can do math. This is our firm conviction, and we want to tell this story to all math students. We are Mattecentrum Malmö, and we work for equal education where every child is given a chance to learn the basics of mathematics, and to better succeed in school.
Are you passionate about children’s right for equal education, and do you think math is fun? Well, you might be our new colleague! The assignment covers 2-4 hours per week or more, depending on how much time you are willing to invest in the project.
Mattecentrum is a Swedish non-governmental organization that arranges free of charge mathematics classes (räknestugor) for school children who need support with math. Students can reach our volunteers with their questions and tasks during scheduled in-class sessions or through Mattecentrum online forum. Mattecentrum Malmö offers math classes both for a broad audience of students as well as for special groups for young children from socially challenged areas of the city - through our project Mattebusen. In future, we plan to strengthen our focus on the pro-active pedagogic measures for young children, because this is where we can make the biggest difference in the long run.
About the assignment
We offer a dynamic working environment where you decide how to work and what initiatives to focus on. As a local coordinator, you work in close cooperation with our local steering board and volunteers. You can of course be both a coordinator and one of Mattecentrum Malmö volunteers.
In this assignment, you coordinate volunteers’ schedules, communicate with the local schools that host in-class sessions, recruit new volunteers and work with the marketing of Mattecentrum to school children so that they know where to find support with math. Also, you will be involved in our development projects. You will get a mentor from the local steering board, who will act as your day-to-day contact point. Apart from the support from the local steering board, you will also get support from the Mattecentrum national organization in Stockholm in order to succeed with your assignment in the best possible way.
