Volontärbyrån’s guidelines and terms for organisations

About Volontärbyrån

At Volontärbyrån, we review and approve organisations and volunteer opportunities based on our guidelines.

When an opportunity is approved, we publish it within 48 hours. Most often, it is published the same weekday.

To use our service, your organisation must meet our criteria.

Criteria for non-profit organisations

We approve organisations that:

  • are non-profit associations, non-profit foundations, or religious communities
  • have a registration number showing they are non-profit
  • support democratic rights and freedoms

We do not approve:

  • political parties
  • limited companies or other for-profit businesses
  • public authorities or public sector organisations

Volontärbyrån connects volunteers with non-profit organisations. We do not connect volunteers directly with public authorities or private individuals.

If your organisation works together with a public authority, you can still recruit volunteers through us.

We believe that volunteering:

  • is based on values other than money
  • should be possible to do alongside work or studies

Criteria for volunteer opportunities

You may advertise:

  • volunteer opportunities in Sweden
  • unpaid volunteer roles

It is allowed to:

  • reimburse volunteers for actual expenses
  • pay compensation for board positions

Some board roles may require more work. Your organisation is responsible for setting a reasonable level of compensation.

We do not approve:

  • internships
  • paid jobs
  • opportunities outside Sweden

Internships and paid jobs can instead be advertised through our sister service, ideellajobb.se.

Our service is for volunteer roles. It is not for advertising single events, such as lectures or meetings.

User accounts and responsibility

All accounts at Volontärbyrån are personal.

As a user, you are responsible for:

  • the content of your organisation’s listings
  • the information in your organisation account

When someone sends an expression of interest, they automatically receive an email with the contact details in your account:

  • name
  • email address
  • phone number
  • title

Please make sure this information is always up to date.

Do not add your contact details in the listing. Do not link to external forms. Volunteers must use the form on the Volontärbyrån website to apply.

You may only use personal data for the volunteer role the person has shown interest in. The data must not be used for other purposes.

Responsibilities

Volontärbyrån is responsible for:

  • reviewing and approving organisations and listings
  • forwarding expressions of interest

Volontärbyrån is not responsible for:

  • the content of the listings
  • the contact between volunteers and organisations after the first introduction

Your organisation is responsible for:

  • contacting people who apply
  • selecting and welcoming volunteers

Volontärbyrån may:

  • remove organisations or listings from the service
  • suspend users who do not follow our guidelines
