Become a volunteer

At Volontärbyrån, you’ll find hundreds of volunteer opportunities across Sweden with non-profit organisations. For example, you can mentor young people, staff a support chat, serve on a board, help with social media, drive an animal ambulance or volunteer at an event.

To apply – this lets the organisation know you’re interested and they can get in touch with you.

Step 1/3

Find a volunteer opportunity that suits you

Explore volunteer opportunities at Volontärbyrån and find opportunities across Sweden. Filter by your interests, causes and how you’d like to contribute to make it easier to find the right opportunity for you.
Create an account to get more out of the platform. You can save opportunities, track your applications and follow causes and organisations. You’ll also receive notifications when new opportunities that match your interests are published.

Apply

When you find an interesting volunteer opportunity, click on "I'm interested" and fill out the form. Tell the organisation about yourself and why you want to volunteer. Then click "Submit", your application will be sent directly to the organisation.

Vhat happens next?

After you’ve applied, the organisation you applied to will get back to you. Response times may vary between organisations. Once you’ve submitted your application, you’ll receive the organisation’s contact details by email so you can reach out if you have any questions about the opportunity. Volontärbyrån facilitates the opportunity, but we’re not involved in the recruitment process. If you have trouble getting in touch with the organisation, you’re welcome to contact us at Volontärbyrån.

All organisations have different recruitment processes. Some may start with a short phone interview, while others prefer to meet and go through the opportunity together. Some organisations require all volunteers to complete an introductory training before getting started.

Becoming a volunteer

  • A volunteer opportunity comes with responsibility. Keep your commitments and don’t take on more than you can manage.
  • Volunteer opportunities are unpaid, and you usually don’t receive financial compensation. However, some organisations may reimburse agreed travel costs or other expenses. Ask the organisation so you know what applies.
  • Let the organisation know if you have any specific needs to carry out your opportunity, such as a guide dog, wheelchair access or additional breaks.
  • Ask if there’s anything in particular you should be aware of, such as whether the organisation provides insurance for its volunteers. This can vary between organisations.
  • Stay updated about opportunities by choosing what you’d like to support and where you’d like to volunteer.
  • You can also follow an organisation that interests you.
  • Once you’ve set up a notification, you’ll receive an email when new volunteer opportunities are published. You choose whether to receive emails daily or weekly.
