The Challenge
The Challenge
As a volunteer-run organization with no paid staff, we rely on the expertise of our community to keep our operations running smoothly. We are currently looking for a motivated volunteer to help us modernize our digital tools and infrastructure. We are seeking someone to help us transition from legacy systems to more user-friendly, collaborative platforms and to help us improve our website and digital communication channels.
How You Can Contribute
We are looking for support in areas that allow you to apply your tech skills to a real-world, international context:
- Infrastructure Support: Helping us migrate from our current web server (Strato Webmail) to a modern, reliable, and easy-to-use cloud platform (Google Workspace).
- Website Maintenance: Assisting with updates to keep our web presence fresh and informative.
- Communication Tools: Helping us integrate our internal tools so that volunteers across Europe can collaborate more easily, including working group updates and moving off email towards improved communication channels.
- Digital Innovation: Sharing your ideas on how we can use simple technology to build new tools, such as an events calendar to showcase heritage rail happenings across Europe.
Why This Role is Great for You
This is a flexible, hands-on opportunity to build your portfolio and gain practical experience. You will be able to:
- Test Your Skills: Take ownership of real-world IT projects, from file migration to platform organization.
- Make a Tangible Impact: Your work will directly simplify the daily lives of 35,000 volunteers across Europe.
- Build Your CV: Gain experience in project management, digital infrastructure, and cross-border coordination—valuable skills for any professional path.
- Enjoy Flexibility: Work is carried out remotely with a flexible schedule that you can balance with your other commitments.
