FEDECRAIL

Support the Future of Europe’s Living Rail Heritagesector

FEDECRAIL (the European Federation of Museum & Tourist Railways) is the umbrella organisation representing the heritage rail sector across Europe. We connect and support more than 650 member organisations – museum railways, heritage tramways, tourist railways, infrastructure owners, volunteers, operators and industry partners – working to preserve and operate Europe’s living railway heritage. Together, our members welcome millions of visitors annually and safeguard historic vehicles, infrastructure, workshops and unique skills.
We are now looking for engaged volunteers to strengthen our work.
We seek support in:
🔹 Administration – member coordination, documentation, reporting, working group follow-up and EU project support.
🔹 Communication & Outreach – social media, newsletters, member communication, youth engagement campaigns and brand visibility (graphic skills welcome but not required).
You will be part of an international European network, engaging with heritage rail leaders across 20+ countries, supporting youth initiatives and contributing to EU-level advocacy for sustainable cultural tourism and railway preservation.

This is a flexible voluntary engagement with no fixed time commitment.
The role may include participation in conferences and meetings across Europe. When travel is required, FEDECRAIL covers travel and accommodation.

Minimum commitment

Time Commitment & Duration The engagement is flexible and depends on your availability and interest. FEDECRAIL is a volunteer-based organisation, and there is no fixed term or mandatory number of occasions. The time commitment varies depending on the type of support you wish to provide. On average, volunteers may contribute: A few hours per month for communication or administrative support More intensively during specific periods such as conferences, EU project deadlines, or campaigns Most work is carried out remotely. Occasionally, participation in meetings or events across Europe may be offered, depending on your role and availability. The level of engagement is entirely flexible — you contribute as much or as little as your situation allows.

When and where the opportunity takes place

Location & Duration of the Assignment The assignment is not tied to a specific fixed period or location. FEDECRAIL is a European umbrella organisation operating primarily through remote collaboration. Most tasks are carried out online, allowing volunteers to contribute from their home country and according to their own schedule. There is no predetermined end date for the engagement. The role is ongoing and flexible, based on mutual agreement and availability. In some cases, the assignment may include participation in physical meetings, conferences, or workshops in different European countries. When travel is required on behalf of FEDECRAIL, travel and accommodation costs are covered by the organisation.
