Kafé Södermalm, run by Ny Gemenskap, offers our guests a full, hearty breakfast every weekday, along with coffee, counseling, and a sense of community. We target people living in precariousness and/or in homelessness. During the summer, many nonprofit organizations in Stockholm are closed for vacation. That’s why it’s especially important for us to keep the café open as much as possible: people in vulnerable situations need food and security, even during the summer! On some days in the summer, we have over 200 guests who come to us to eat their fill.
Your duties as a volunteer:
As a café volunteer, you play a key role in ensuring that the entire operation runs smoothly. Your duties include preparing breakfast and keeping the café running smoothly throughout the morning. This involves serving breakfast, making coffee, cleaning dishes, and of course, being a friendly face who treats guests with the humanity and respect that many of them don’t receive elsewhere in society.
You don’t need any restaurant experience to volunteer here: we value kindness and understanding. Here, you’ll meet people you might otherwise never come into contact with, which fosters a greater respect for others and a sense of belonging in society.
Our stated mission is “We make a difference,” so come and make a difference with us!
