Become a ruinhost during medieval week 2026
Do you want to help create the best medieval experience in the world?
Medieval Week on Gotland is the largest historical festival and educational event in the Nordic region, attracting tens of thousands of history enthusiasts every year. This year’s festival takes has the theme Love. Medieval Week volunteers are needed everywhere, and we have room for everyone—from enthusiastic amateurs to professionals. The most important thing is that you are willing and able to take part!
As a Ruin Host, you help ensure that performances in the ruins and on our other stages run smoothly. You are someone who loves to help, can handle lot of information and impressions at the same time, and remain friendly even when visitors around you are stressed or frustrated.
Tasks include, among other things:
- Maintaining the ruins
- Managing entry and checking tickets for the different stages
- Crowd management
- Assisting with other tasks when needed
Medieval Week offers a fantastic sense of community with activities and a base camp exclusively for volunteers. Here we serve coffee, offer a peaceful break and provide opportunities to socialize.
Good to know:
- As a volunteer, you can stay at the Medieval Week campsite
- You receive meals during your shifts
- As a volunteer, you get a participant wristband, as well as a volunteer badge that provides access to concerts and more.

Minimum commitment
25 hours, divided between 4 and 8 shifts
When and where the opportunity takes place
During the festival, August 2-9th. 30 scenes in the UNESCO World Heritage city of Visby's church ruins, parks and on streets and squares with parades and activities.

Accessibility
Visby streets, parks and ruins and our built medieval arena have good accessibility based on the conditions. Some ruins and places are difficult to access with a wheelchair.
